2011 MacBook Pro Owners Launch Petition Over Defective GPU

Back in 2013, there were growing complaints about how Apple’s early 2011 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pros were suffering from issues with its AMD GPUs. This meant that MacBook Pro owners were experiencing crashes and graphics failures which appeared to be related to the GPUs in their laptops.

These complaints have ballooned up over time and to date there has been about 338 pages so far with complaints coming in from all parts of the world. Now this might not be that big of an issue, but the real reason behind these complaints is because Apple has kept mum the entire time. If Apple had acknowledged the problem, offered a replacement, or maybe even launched a recall program, this could be a different story.

Those who have been affected by this problem have since launched a petition on Change.org in which they are asking Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, and SVP of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, to ask them to look into this, a problem which they are calling a manufacturing defect. Now Apple has issued product recalls before and have also offered up replacements, so it would not be a first for the Cupertino company.

The petition has managed to raise over 2,700 signatures to date, although its creators are aiming for 5,000, so if you’re a MacBook Pro owner experiencing these issues and would like Apple to do something about it, then head on over to Change.org and leave your signature.
