Yahoo evidently wants to be a major player in online video streaming and the company has taken a lot steps recently which prove that it is serious about these ambitions. A few months back the Yahoo Screen app for iOS was launched. It essentially pools together some of the most popular clips from a wide variety of sources like Comedy Central and Saturday Night Live. Today the Yahoo Screen for Android application has finally been released bringing those on Google’s mobile platform into the fold as well.
The interface of both iOS and Android apps is more or less the same. Users navigate through it by swiping up or down and can move between videos by swiping left or right. The idea behind these gestures is to turn your finger “into the remote control.”
Yahoo Screen for Android comes days after Yahoo announced its first original comedy series. The company has tapped some well known talent for these series which will be released in eight half-hour episodes. These episodes will be distributed through Yahoo Screen apps on mobile as well as on Apple TV and Roku set-top boxes.
The app is live now and available for download through the Google Play Store. Like its counterpart on iOS, Yahoo Screen for Android is free of charge.
