The company has since relaunched its website and instead of Xiaomi.com, it has been renamed to Mi.com. Xiaomi, which when translated from the Chinese language, literally means “small rice”, and perhaps not particularly international friendly sounding. However with the “Mi” name, it apparently is an acronym for Mobile Internet, which we guess we can thank former Google executive, Hugo Barra, for that.
Barra left his job at Google to work for the Chinese company and is now in charge of their global expansion. As it stands they are still focusing more on the Asia region but we can only assume that the Western market is one that they have their eyes set on as well. There are a handful of products that Xiaomi is planning on pushing with the launch of the new website.
This includes the Redmi Note, Redmi, Mi3, Mi TY, Mi Box, and the Mi Power Bank. The Mi3 in particular is pretty impressive as it is a device that managed to sell 100,000 units in 86 seconds which is a feat on its own.
