Even though Google released Android 4.4 KitKat last year it has still taken carriers a lot of time to roll out the latest update for their customers. In the U.S. Verizon is one of the few carriers that still haven’t released KitKat for the Samsung Galaxy S4. That might be about to change in the near future though. A purported leaked internal memo from Big Red reads that Verizon Galaxy S4 KitKat update release is going to take place on May 2nd.
It should be kept in mind though that Verizon still hasn’t confirmed anything as far as KitKat for its Galaxy S4 variant is concerned. The carrier only recently released this very update for the LG G2. Until Big Red confirms the date we can’t be sure of it, so even if you mark your calendars for May 2nd, be prepared to be let down.
For the impatient lot there’s always the option to go down the road filled with custom ROMs. Already there are a plethora of custom Android 4.4 KitKat based ROMs for the Galaxy S4. The flashing process might be unnerving for folks who haven’t done it before, and since there’s always the risk of bricking your device, its best to only go that way if you absolutely know what you’re doing.
