Users Migrating From Windows XP Prefer Windows 7 Over Windows 8

In about a week Microsoft is going to kill support for Windows XP, one of the most popular iterations of its operating system. It has been around for a long, long time and there are still a lot of users out there who haven’t updated to subsequent iterations. The company has been trying to raise awareness about the potential threats that may rise after support for Windows XP is stopped. It has even started offering a $100 discount to users who jump ship from Windows XP to Windows 8.1, the latest iteration. But it appears that those migrating prefer Windows 7 over Windows 8.

Net Applications recently revealed statistics showing a slight decline in Windows XP market share. Last month it stood at 29.53 percent, now its down to 27.69 percent. If the users departing from XP didn’t shift to any other platform, most of them certainly didn’t end up on Windows 8, since its market share is up just 0.62 percent from last month. It only has 11.3 percent of the market.

On the other hand, Windows 7 remains comfortably out front in the lead. Its also the most popular Windows iteration in the world, powering nearly 50 percent of all PCs. Windows 7 market share has increased by over 1 percent, reaching 48.77 percent from 47.31 percent last month. Its highly likely that some Windows XP users opted for it instead of the latest iteration.
