According to a report from Singapore, Xperia Z2 owners have discovered that there is a gap at the top right hand corner of their device (pictured above). It might not be noticeable in darker colors of the phone, but on the white model it is pretty obvious. These customers have since voiced concerns that this could allow water to seep in and damage the phone’s internal components.
That and the fact that these are supposed to be brand new phones probably won’t sit too well with customers either. Sony Mobile Singapore have since issued a statement acknowledging the issue, “We are aware of some users’ concern on the waterproofing capability of the Xperia Z2 due to the presence of gap(s) and are currently looking into this issue. In the meantime, users who wish to [sic] may bring their Xperia Z2 to any service center to have our staff conduct a water resistant test.”
Apart from that potential issue, Sony Xperia Z2 owners have also found another problem in which their phones heat up a fair bit and on occasion lose camera functionality while recording 4K video. Sony Mobile Singapore also acknowleged that might be a problem suggested that users use a high capacity SD card and to only shoot 4K videos in short bursts of time as opposed to extended periods.
The launch of the Sony Xperia Z2 in North America has been delayed so it is unclear if Sony will be taking the time in between to ensure that these problems do not make its way into the next batch of Xperia Z2 phones, but if you had your eye on the Xperia Z2, perhaps these are some issues to keep an eye out for.
