Unfortunately for Sony, this is not the first incident where Sony has run into overheating batteries. If one were to turn the clock back all the way to 2006, other than Sony, other computer manufacturers such as Dell and Apple, too, did issue high-profile recalls that affected millions of laptop owners after it was discovered that the batteries used in the aforementioned notebooks ran into the risk of overheating and of course, catching fire. And who was the manufacturer of those possibly defective batteries? Sony, of course.
Sony claims that they will “repair or replace the affected PCs at no charge, or to refund the purchase price for the affected PCs.” Expect additional information to hail from Sony in the weeks ahead, and it is best not to use your notebook Sony sorts this thing out. [Press Release]
