A few days ago we reported that Sony could be gearing up to announce their new compact camera, the Sony RX100M3 on the 1st of May. Now we know that Sony will be hosting the World Photography Awards Exhibition on the 1st of May so it made sense that Sony would take the opportunity to announce something.
However according to Sony Alpha Rumors’ sources, it turns out that the Sony RX100M3 might skip the 1st May announcement. Instead it will be announced several weeks later, which they have speculated to take place on the 15th of May. However Sony will be announcing something on the 1st of May and it is apparently the A77M2 camera.
This is also “confirmed” by an invite sent by Sony (pictured above) which shows off the Sony Alpha logo. Since the RX100M3 is not part of the Alpha lineup, it certainly does seem like the announcement could be centered around the A77M2 instead. In any case the World Photography Awards Exhibition will run until the 18th of May so we guess the 15th of May does sound plausible.
Sony Alpha Rumors’ sources told them that this change was very last minute, although we’re not sure why. Perhaps Sony did not want the announcements to overshadow each other, but either way take it with a grain of salt for now and check back with us later to see if there are any additional details to be had.
