Well according to a recent tweet by the Microsoft Office Twitter account, it seems that there have been more than 12 million downloads of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote for the iPad from the iTunes App Store since its launch and given that it was about a week ago, we have to say that is pretty impressive.
Now how many of those downloads actually turns to uses remains to be seen. There is a downside to Office for iPad and that is that it will require users to have a Office 365 subscription. For those who don’t have the subscription, it does seem a little pricey to be using an app just to edit documents on the go, especially since there are plenty of free alternatives out there.
There are ways around it that Microsoft has acknowledged and is hoping people won’t abuse, but safe to say that Office 365 is a deterrent. Otherwise for those who just need to view Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote documents, then we reckon the Office for iPad suite of apps should do just fine.
