Lag on the internet is not fun at all. This means pages load slower, videos buffer slower, and when you play games, the delay could mean life or death (in the game, of course). So what’s it like to experience lag in real life? Well that’s what fiber internet provider, ume.net, is trying to demonstrate in their new ad that features a group of volunteers wearing Oculus Rift headsets.
Basically they will attempt to perform a bunch of tasks, such as playing ping pong, dancing, and so on. However with the Oculus Rift on, what they are seeing and reacting too will be several seconds delayed, meaning that ping pong ball hits will be missed, and dance routines will be way off. It’s actually pretty humorous although we can only imagine how frustrating it can get.
We can only assume that this ad is meant to promote how fast ume.net’s internet service is and that lag will be a thing of the past, but either way it goes to show that the Oculus Rift has a variety of use as well, not just as a gaming device, but it can also be used to advertise products too. In the meantime if you have a few minutes to spare, you might want to check out the video above which is pretty funny.
