Nokia Monarch Could Be T-Mobile’s Lumia 635

According to the rumors we heard last month, Nokia was reportedly working on a device codenamed “Monarch”. We weren’t sure what handset the codename belonged to at that point in time, but thanks to a recent post by the ever-reliable @evleaks, it seems that the Nokia Monarch could in reality be the Nokia Lumia 635 that will be making its way onto T-Mobile’s network.

The Nokia Lumia 635 was announced earlier this month during Microsoft’s BUILD conference and has been announced for T-Mobile, so we guess the mystery has been solved as to what the Monarch is. We guess in some way we’re a little disappointed that this isn’t a brand new Nokia device that we haven’t heard of, but we can’t say we’re too surprised.

For those wondering about the Lumia 635, it isn’t a particularly high-end device. The handset will come with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz. It will also be accompanied by 512MB of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage that can be expanded via microSD, a 5MP rear-facing camera, a 4.5-inch FWVGA display, a 1,830mAh battery, and LTE support.

Interestingly enough it seems that the Lumia 635 will be coming without a couple of sensors that one might expect on mobile devices. While the original listing on Nokia’s website listed that it had a light and proximity sensor, it had been discovered that these sensors might not be present in the phone according to Daniel Rubino during the Windows Weekly podcast. Nokia has since updated their Developer pages to reflect that as well.
