During yesterday’s presentation that the Microsoft BUILD conference, the Redmond company took the wraps off its Windows Phone 8.1 update that will be released for Windows Phone 8 handsets. They also introduced several new features, such as personalized lockscreens and the Cortana voice assistant.
However it seems that not only will Nokia be bringing these updates to their Lumia lineup, but for certain Lumia devices, they will be getting some added features in Nokia’s upcoming “Cyan” update as well. The update is essentially Nokia’s own codename for it (the previous update was known as Black) and according to Nokia, the update will introduce features like Miracast and Dolby Surround Sound Capture.
Unfortunately not all Lumia handsets are eligible for these updates. According to Microsoft, only a handful of select handsets will get the Miracast update and as far as Nokia’s lineup is concerned, these handsets include the Lumia 1520, Lumia Icon, and the Lumia 930 which is essentially the international version of the Lumia Icon.
Nokia also revealed that those 3 handsets will be getting the Dolby Surround Sound Capture feature, a feature which is actually on the Lumia 930 already but will also make its way onto the Lumia 1520 and the Lumia Icon. Nokia claims that with this technology, the sound captured by Nokia devices will be of higher quality and can be experienced in 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus format.
So if you were thinking about getting a Nokia Lumia handset, perhaps some of these somewhat “exclusive” features could be worth taking into consideration.
