Mobile devices are increasingly being used for content consumption and Hulu is latching on to that trend. The online video streaming service announced today that it is going to expand free viewing options for users accessing the service through a mobile device. Starting this summer Hulu will stream a selection of ad-supported full TV episodes for free. Until now Hulu’s free service has only been accessible through desktop, mobile apps were only good for clips.

The ad-supported full episodes will be free for all users even those who don’t have a Hulu Plus subscription. Hulu also teased its next generation Hulu Plus iPhone app which it says is going to be launched later this summer.

Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins revealed that the premium Hulu Plus service has surpassed six million subscribers and also announced some updates for Hulu’s original series. The company, like its rivals, have been investing a lot in original content and is witnessing a great response. To take this mission forward the company will be tripling its content marketing spend over the next year to grow awareness for, and interest in, Hulu original series.

The service is only available to viewers in the U.S. so foreigners are out of luck. Recent reports suggest that Hulu is even blocking VPN users in order to keep foreigners out.
