It seriously won’t surprise anyone if Samsung launches multiple variants of its latest flagship, the Galaxy S5. There have already been quite a few rumors about the possibility of a Samsung Galaxy S5 mini. The company has already released similar variants for Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 in the past. A support page on Samsung New Zealand’s website reveals that the latest variant will be water and dust resistant as well, just like its full fledged sibling.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 mini is expected to have the same IP67 water and dust resistant standard as the Galaxy S5, which means that the device can be submerged for up to 30 minutes under up to one meter of water. This same standard was used by Galaxy S4 Active, another variant that Samsung released for last year’s flagship.
Rumor has it that the Galaxy S5 mini is going to have a 4.5-inch 720p display, a quadcore Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor coupled with 1.5GB of RAM, 8 megapixel rear and 2 megapixel front camera, 16GB of onboard storage with Android 4.4 pre-installed.
No word as yet from Samsung regarding the release time frame for this smartphone. However word on the street is that it may get announced in May, and its quite possible that it may hit the market next month as well.
