We previously reported that it was possible Google might allow everyone to purchase a Glass unit this week. The report was later confirmed by the company. Anyone can buy Google Glass in the U.S. today provided that they reside in the country, customers will need a U.S. shipping address. No, Google hasn’t publicly released its hotly anticipated wearable gadget yet. Its merely expanding the Explorer Program, so Google Glass units are only being offered today.
Since its selling Explorer Edition units, customers will have to pay Explorer Edition prices. If you want to pick up a Glass unit today be prepared to shell out $1,500. Customers will be able to choose colors and a free accessory such as a frame or shade of their choice. Additional accessories like earbuds, a charging kit and carrying case can also be added to the order.
Once the order has been placed, Google promises that it will ship your unit within five to seven business days. Customers that want to use Glass with prescription lenses will need to buy them for the unit as a separate item. Glass fans outside the U.S. are out of luck. Google hasn’t said when it plans to expand the Explorer Program outside the country. It may not even do so, considering the fact that the public release of Google Glass is expected later this year anyway.
