During MWC 2014, BlackBerry announced two handsets, the BlackBerry Z3 and the BlackBerry Q20. If anything, the BlackBerry Z3 sounds like a more modern handset with full touchscreen capabilities, while the BlackBerry Q20 reminded us more of the Bold 9900 rather than the BlackBerry Q10.
However we’re basing this on what BlackBerry’s CEO, John Chen, said about the device, like how it would come with an integrated trackpad and feature a tool belt of hardware buttons alongside a QWERTY keyboard. This is compared to the Q10 which did away with the trackpad and tool belt of buttons and only kept the QWERTY keyboard.
No actual photos of the Q20 exist at the moment although Fairfax Financial’s CEO Prem Watsa, the company that injected money into BlackBerry, did state that he would attempt to get BlackBerry’s CEO to unveil the handset at the company’s annual meeting. Unfortunately it looks like that will not be happening according to a statement by the company.
According to Fairfax, they stated that due to the BlackBerry Q20 being slated for a later release, it will not be ready in time for it to be shown off at the meeting. Last we heard, the Q20 was slated for a release in September/October which is why we can’t say we’re too surprised. It looks like we’ll just have to wait for the official release or hope for leaks to make its way onto the internet.
