OEMs give priority to their most recent devices whenever major updates are released. We witnessed this with Samsung and Android 4.4 KitKat. So far the update has only been released for Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4, its two flagships from 2013. Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 owners are still waiting on the update, it was expected to drop by the end of March, but we didn’t hear anything about it. Now the expected time frame sits between mid-April and early May, this according to a user in South Korea who contacted Samsung customer support.
The user asked them to provide a rough time frame for Android 4.4 release, and folks at customer support were kind enough to do so. It warrants mentioning here that these apply to South Korea, so the timing may be different for other regions like North America and Europe. For all we know, the update could be released next week across the U.S.
According to customer support, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will get KitKat come mid-April, whereas Galaxy S3 users might have to wait until late April or even till early next month. There have also been conflicting reports about the update. It was rumored that the international non-LTE Galaxy S3 variant won’t receive Android 4.4 KitKat, but a subsequent rumor contradicted it and said that the variant would get KitKat. Speculation is bound to continue until Samsung makes an official announcement regarding the update, who knows when it plans on doing that.
