Acer made quite a few announcements today at an event in New York. It unveiled two new affordable tablets, the Acer Iconia One 7 and the Iconia Tab 7 with the former being the cheapest among the two. At the event Acer also unveiled its new 5-inch flagship smartphone the Liquid Jade which will be complemented by the company’s new smartwatch cum fitness activity tracker called the Liquid Leap.
The Iconia One 7 tablet has a 7-inch LED backlit IPS display with 1,280×800 pixel resolution. Under the hood there’s a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. It even has a 5 megapixel rear camera and a secondary camera up front. MicroSD card support is included. The tablet ships with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean though Acer promises to upgrade it to KitKat in the future. This tablet will be available in select markets including North America come May for $129.99.
Acer Iconia Tab 7‘s defining feature is its phone functionality. The company bills it as “the marriage of the two most used consumer devices – a tablet and phone.” With a 1,280×800 pixel resolution 7-inch IPS display and up to 6 hours of battery life the Iconia Tab 7 offers 3G enabled phone functionality. It also has a quadcore processor, rear and front facing cameras though Acer didn’t reveal any details about them. The tablet does have microSD card capability and will come with Android 4.4 KitKat.
It doesn’t look like the Acer Iconia Tab 7 will be offered for sale in the U.S. Though it will also be launched in select markets come May and will be priced €149.
