According to Penello, Microsoft will soon be releasing drivers for the PC that will make the controller compatible with the PC, stating that this will essentially be the same deal that they had with the Xbox 360 which worked perfectly fine the PC as well.
“When the drivers become available, they will work with the existing controllers. There is no plan to do a new, separate controller that only works on Windows. The Xbox One controller you have today will work.” However Penello did not state when exactly the drivers will be made available, but he did hint that perhaps one day there might be a PC-specific Xbox One controller.
It almost sounds contradicting but basically what Penello means is that if you already own the Xbox One, you will be able to use existing controllers. However for those who don’t, you can either buy a regular Xbox One controller, or there might be a possibility of a PC-specific model.
In the meantime while gamers wait for Microsoft to officially release the Xbox One drives for the PC, one particular modder has found a way to make it work by tricking the PC into thinking that it is the Xbox 360’s controller that is plugged in.
