This was confirmed by the folks at VLC who have posted the screenshot above, showing that the app is still waiting to be certified. We’re not sure what is taking Microsoft so long, but hopefully for Windows 8 users they will be able to download the app sometime this week.
So that’s Windows 8 out of the way, or so to be, but what about Windows Phone? We know that the folks at VLC are open to the idea of bringing the app onto Windows Phone handsets as well, although it seems that if you wanted VLC for Windows Phone, you might have to wait for the release of Windows Phone 8.1.
According to a tweet by VLC, they have hinted that a VLC app for Windows Phone would probably only be released post-Windows Phone 8.1, citing performance as one of the reasons that they would release for Windows Phone 8.1 and not Windows Phone 8.
Of course when exactly remains to be seen, but in another tweet by VLC, they are suggesting that they will know more about a possible release timeframe after the Microsoft BUILD conference in April, so check back with us then for the details.
