Twitch is a popular service used by gamers to broadcast gameplay, its already available on Sony’s latest console the PlayStation 4 and will be making its way to Xbox One on March 11th. Millions of gamers around the world use Twitch, even though it hasn’t offered the ability to stream mobile game play, despite the fact that mobile gaming has skyrocketed thanks to smartphones and tablets. Twitch has finally seen the light and has announced the launch of a mobile software development kit which developers can use to integrate live streaming capability in their mobile games.
Twitch already offers a mobile app for iOS and Android which can be used to tap into existing streams, although there’s no way to stream games being played on mobile devices just yet, so users can only watch streams from supported gaming machines. Using the SDK, developers can not only add broadcast functionality, they can also enable apps to capture video using a mobile device’s front camera as well as audio using internal or external microphones.
The full suite of chat options will also be at the users’ disposal, alongside the ability to choose between low, medium and high broadcasting quality. It hasn’t been said as yet when the Twitch mobile SDK is going to be released, it has merely said that additional information is going to be revealed soon.
