This contradicts earlier rumors that suggested that the game might launch in 720p. The beta of the game was running at 792p, but the rumors claimed that the developers, Respawn Entertainment, had decided to go with 720p with the launch version of the game instead. Thankfully that isn’t true as it has been confirmed by Respawn themselves.
The good news is that if 792p isn’t what you were hoping the game to be, perhaps you wanted it to be at 900p or even 1080p, that might be something that will happen in the future. Speaking to Eurogamer, Respawn’s lead engineer, Richard Baker, said that they were experimenting with different resolutions that might be applied to the game post-launch.
According to Baker, ”We’re going to experiment. The target is either 1080p non-anti-aliased or 900p with FXAA. We’re trying to optimise… we don’t want to give up anything for higher res. So far we’re not 100 per cent happy with any of the options, we’re still working on it. For day one it’s not going to change. We’re still looking at it for post-day one. We’re likely to increase resolution after we ship.”
Of course with an increase in resolution, things like frame rate could drop, and playing an FPS game on low or unstable frame rates tends to lend itself to a very bad experience. Baker also stated that there have been improvements made to the shipped copies of the game, improvements that were made after the beta had concluded.
