Sydney’s Underwater World To Receive Street View Treatment

sydney-underwaterYesterday, we did bring you word that those who are interested in paying Hawaii a visit from their computers can do so thanks to the wonders of Street View on Google Maps, and today we have news that Street View imagery will also deliver something that is different from street level buildings and happenings, literally going under the water along the way. The Catlin Seaview Survey has teamed up with the Sydney Institute of Marine Science, where this combined effort will record and reveal the rich abundance of marine life that reside along Sydney’s famous Harbour and coastline, all the way from Manly to Bronte. This particular project would make use of Catlin Seaview Survey’s 360-degree panoramic SVII camera in order to gather the imagery, where the compiled images will then be published to Google Maps later this year.

It is hoped that the amount of new Street View imagery compiled will help in the advancement of important scientific research, at the same time helping to inspire folks to figure out more about the beautiful as well as delicate ecology of Sydney Harbour and its surrounding beaches. What are some of the most impressive Street View images that you have seen to date? [Press Release]
