Earlier this month rumors started circulating that Sony is facing production issues with its latest flagship, the Xperia Z2. While the company played down rumors at the time, it appears that really is a problem which may push general sales date of the handset back across the pond in the UK and Europe. Sony Xperia Z2 sales were expected to kick off in April, around the same time the company was due to ship units to those who have already placed their pre-orders.
According to retailer Unlocked Mobiles, Sony has advised that there’s a component manufacturing issue from a third party that’s holding production up. In a statement provided to CNET, Sony reiterates that its flagship will be shipped to customers who have placed pre-orders next month. The company adds that its “working tirelessly to maximise stock levels” but it doesn’t expect to meet high demand across all sales channels in April.
Certain UK retailers are now listing expected ship dates for the Xperia Z2 in May, while a couple of them still promise delivery in the second week of April. Its likely that the company will be able to fulfill pre-orders, but customers who didn’t place pre-orders and were waiting to pick one up in stores might have to wait until May. Hopefully by then the supply would be able to keep up with the demand.
