Skype has been a popular VoIP or voice over internet protocol tool for a long time. Its widely used from people who simply want to stay in touch with the people they care about to businesses who deem it a cost effective telepresence solution. However, there has almost always been one major issue with Skype that was only fixed recently. Chat sync wasn’t supported, so if users took a call using one device, the other would keep ringing. Text chats wouldn’t synchronize across different devices making it hard to resume conversations without full continuity of the previous exchange. A new Skype for Windows 8.1 update released today fixes all that.
Microsoft has taken quite some time to roll out this update. All of these issues were fixed on other platforms, particularly mobile, back in February. Skype for Windows 8.1 is now capable of synchronizing chats, so it finally works the way it should have in the first place.
In what appears to be a bid to get more people on Windows 8.1, Microsoft has made this update exclusive to this free Windows 8 iteration. Despite the fact that Windows 8.1 is a free update, quite a lot of Windows 8 users are yet to upgrade, according to a recent survey. If some of them rely upon Skype heavily for communications, perhaps they just might considering updating now.
