Last month at the Mobile World Congress 2014 Samsung launched its new flagship smartphone. Alongside the smartphone, it also launched two new smartwatches and a fitness tracker. Gear 2 and Gear Fit are the company’s new wearable devices, the smartwatches are a significant improvement over their predecessor. Through Gear Fit, Samsung aims to gain a firm footing in mobile fitness tracking. Today the new wearables were introduced in Taiwan and Samsung also confirmed their prices.
When these products were first unveiled at MWC 2014 in Barcelona, Samsung didn’t put a dollar figure on them. Soon after the event a rumor claimed that the Gear 2 would cost $300 and that the Gear Fit would come with a $200 price tag. The company chose not to comment on these rumors, leaving us to believe exactly how much will customers have to pay for these new wearables.
Samsung has revealed the confirmed prices for these products in Taiwan today. Its precisely in line with the rumored prices, $300 for the Gear 2 and $200 for the Gear Fit. Just like the smartphone they were announced with, the new wearables also go on sale next month. Gear 2 Neo will be available next month as well, probably priced between the Gear Fit and the Gear 2. Price in the U.S. won’t be much different, even last year’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch was initially sold for $300.
