It is interesting to note that this particular software has been hosted as a public download on Kim Dotcom’s Mega cloud storage service, albeit it was deleted shortly afterwards. There was a member of the Popcorn Time developer team who stepped forward to confirm that the application installer was not removed by them, but it was Mega who removed it. “We are discussing our next step. This could be the end of Popcorn Time – not the community, its open source – but maybe our goodbye as a team.”
Apparently, all the spotlight that shone in the direction of Popcorn Time did also attract the attention of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), who could be sharpening the legal knives in order to make this project defunct.
