Philips Hue Tap Switch Runs On Kinetic Energy

The world is definitely taking on a green slant these days, and there are no two ways about it. After all, renewable energy makes plenty of sense considering the limited amount of fossil fuels that we have underneath the earth, and nuclear power might not be such a safe option in the long run, too. Philips has done their bit for the eco-friendly brigade with the Hue lighting collection, and this time around, they have unveiled the tap switch that will be made available later this year for $60 a pop.

With this unique tap switch, one is able to control connected lights sans wires simply by tapping one of the four buttons. What makes the entire set up all the more impressive is this – the switch boasts of the ability to turn lights off and on, all without having to have a power source of its own. This is made possible thanks to the wonders of kinetic energy, so a single tap is capable of creating enough power just to complete each task, now how about that for an unprecedented level of efficiency?

Apart from that, Philips has also announced a new “lux” bulb that resembles and operates like a traditional Hue unit, although this one would miss out on the 16 million colors boat. Only white light will be emitted by this bulb, and it is said to be extremely bright. It will retail for $40 per bulb, or you can opt to fork out a Benjamin for a pair that has been bundled with a Hue base to boot.
