The Nintendo Wii U isn’t the hottest selling console at the moment and it does not even look like they are coming close. We’re not sure if it’s the Wii U’s hardware, the price, the complexity of the GamePad, or if there just aren’t enough major titles for it. Well the good news for Wii U gamers is that it looks like you will be able to expect a bunch of new games in the coming months, according to Damon Baker, the Senior Manager of Marketing at Nintendo of America’s Licensing departmennt.
According to Baker, who spoke the folks at Siliconera during GDC 2014, Wii U gamers can look forward to around 17 new Unity powered indie games in the next two months. Baker mentioned that during GDC, Nintendo had about 9 games on display, and revealed that there are more in the pipeline that will be released in the next couple of months.
“We have 17 that are currently in the pipeline, that have been submitted. So they will all be out within the next two months,” says Baker. He later adds that there will be even more games for gamers to play although he did not mention when these games would be released. “And then, we have another fifty that are waiting in the wings, that are coming; so we’ve got a lot of Unity content on the way.”We’re not sure what kind of titles to expect, but as is the game with indie games, chances are some of them could feature completely unexpected gameplay which sometimes proves to be quite a pleasant surprise (think titles like Journey and Device 6, for example). Will this turn gamers onto the Wii U? For Nintendo’s sake we certainly hope so, but what do you guys think?
