Its no longer surprising to see major manufacturers launch “mini” versions of their flagship smartphones. Samsung has been doing it for years, and even LG and HTC joined the party last year. Rumor has it that major Chinese manufacturer Oppo is looking to jump on this bandwagon as well. It launched the Oppo N1 last year, a flagship smartphone with a gigantic 5.9 inch display. Apparently now it is developing a 5-inch Oppo N1 mini.
If the rumored display size is correct, then it would certainly stand out from all the other “mini” branded smartphones, which tend have displays that hover around 4 or 4.5-inches. The Oppo N1 came with a Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB RAM, 13 megapixel camera, a touch sensitive area on the back and a lot more. Oppo N1 mini may not have all that.
Detailed specifications haven’t been rumored as yet. It is believed that Oppo N1 mini may tout an octacore processor, perhaps one from MediaTek or it could be one from Samsung’s new Exynos 5 family. LTE and non-LTE variants are expected to be released later this year, presumably in May or June. The company itself hasn’t dropped any hints about the Oppo N1 mini as yet.
It does have an event scheduled for tomorrow, but that’s for an entirely new flagship. The much rumored Oppo Find 7 is finally going to be unveiled tomorrow in Beijing.
