The last couple of months have been great for Android fans. Anticipating was running high as both Samsung and HTC were due to unveil their 2014 flagships. Samsung Galaxy S5 was made official last month while earlier today the All New HTC One was finally launched. Another manufacturer that has been able to generate some hype for its upcoming smartphone is the nascent OnePlus. Today the company finally confirmed that its first ever smartphone, the OnePlus One, is going to be “fully unveiled” on April 23rd.
“Fully unveiled” is certainly the magic word here. If you have been following news about the OnePlus One, you’ll be aware of the strategy that the company has used to build up hype. It has dropped bits and pieces of information about the smartphone over the last few months, without giving us a glimpse of the actual device. On April 23rd, that strategy will finally come to an end.
Yesterday the company revealed a crucial detail about the device. Initially it was said to tout a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, but it has now been confirmed that it will actually come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, at least matching its rivals from Samsung and HTC on paper.
It will probably take a few weeks after the announcement for the smartphone to become available for purchase. Since its a new company, one can’t expect it to go all out on the launch event. It would presumably break the news via a PR or a webcast. OnePlus says that its first smartphone will be sold for under $400, off contract and unlocked.
