I suppose that plenty of news circulated concerning Microsoft’s Office for iPad debut, but on the quiet, Microsoft has also updated their Office Mobile app for iPhone, which would mean this software is now free for home use. A price drop also applies to the Android version of the app, which is good news for those who have wanting to give it a go all this while but never really having managed to make the financial commitment in doing so.
In the app update’s release notes, it lists pricing for home use only, as well as a slew of bug fixes as part of the changes, which does suggest that Microsoft will not stop requiring Office 365 subscriptions for businesses that rely on the mobile software. Right now, the fees have been set at $99 per year, or you can opt for monthly installments that are going for $9.99 per month.
This particular decision from Microsoft is not unfamiliar – competitors like Apple also follow this trend, where the iWork for iOS suite was made free with a new iOS device purchase. Apart from that, Google too, has not missed the free mobile apps bandwagon with QuickOffice for Android among others. Those who are interested can pick up Microsoft Office Mobile which would be a 49.2MB download, so go get it now as a free download from the iOS App Store.
