According to them, the HTC Desire 616 will be a phone destined for the Chinese market and sure enough it will pack an octa-core chipset. Apparently octa-core chipsets are more popular in China, although we’re not sure why (we wonder if this might have to do with the number “8” which is considered auspicious in Chinese culture, versus the number “4”).
Unlike the HTC One M8, the Desire 616 will be a plastic affair and will sport a plastic build. Under the hood the device will be powered by an octa-core chipset clocked at 1.7GHz made by MediaTek. It will be accompanied by 1GB of RAM, sport a 5-inch 720p display, an 8MP rear-facing camera, and will come in a variety of colors: black, blue, white, red, and yellow.
No word on when the handset will be released or whether it will ever see the light of day outside the Chinese market, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled nonetheless.
