Thanks to the folks at SamMobile, they have managed to get their hands on several slides for the upcoming product that shows it off in all of its glory. Unlike the Gear Fit which was announced at MWC 2014, the S Band will not pack a display meaning that it acts purely as an accessory for collecting motion data.
The device appears to be rather non-descript and sports a watch-like design (with no display) and appears to come in several different colors. It also appears that the main component of the device is separate from the wristbands, meaning that users will be able to swap between different colors whenever they want.
The slides also describe some of the S Band’s features, such as the ability to track steps taken, distance walked/run, calories, and sleep quality monitoring, just to name a few. There will also be a companion app and we’re assuming that the device should play nicely with Samsung’s phones, if not all Android phones, unless Samsung decides to make it only compatible with certain devices like they did with the original Galaxy Gear.
Unfortunately there’s no telling if and when the S Band will be released, but hopefully we will learn more about it soon. In fact based on what we have seen so far, we have to wonder if it might be the same “S-Circle” activity tracker that was spotted at the FCC not too long ago. Then again the core of the device is hardly circular in shape, but either way we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more information.
