That being said it seems that the Moto G has actually helped Motorola achieve a higher market share in the UK. According to a recent Kantar Worldpanel report, the Moto G helped Motorola achieve a 6% market share in the UK. This is pretty small but given that Motorola’s presence in the UK was almost non-existent, according to Kantar, this is a pretty big achievement.
According to Dominic Sunnebo, Kantar’s strategic insight director, “With virtually no existing customers to sell to in Britain, the Moto G has stolen significant numbers of low-mid end customers from Samsung and Nokia Lumia.” Based on the numbers, it seems that the Moto G is appealing to customers aged between 16-24, 40% of whom earn less than £20,000.
If anything this sounds like a similar situation with Nokia and the Lumia 520. Despite the handset featuring low-end specs, it proved to be quite a hit. Hopefully for Lenovo’s sake, Motorola will be able to continue this trend even after the acquisition.
