Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Censored In Japan

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes has been released, but are all copies of the game equal across the world? Apparently not, as we have learned that Ground Zeroes had gone under the knife in the Land of the Rising Sun after a decision by Japan’s game rating board CERO. Director of the game, Hideo Kojima himself, has already confirmed that Ground Zeroes had been censored in Japan.

While the Western version of the game will boast of the vocal talents of actor Kiefer Sutherland as Big Boss, the Japanese version will ensure that long-time Japanese fan favorite, Akio Otsuka, reprises a role that he is all too familiar with. That is not the only difference, as the rather dark path that Ground Zeroes had taken apparently went too far for the ratings board to approve.

Kojima had this to say about the censorship, “”That part got flagged by CERO so the production was changed that way, but in the North American version [of Ground Zeroes] you can see everything.”
