LG’s “self-healing” flexible smartphone, the G Flex, came with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean pre-installed. Its been quite a long wait for owners of this smartphone, given that late last year Google released Android 4.4 KitKat and its taken a lot of time for the update to reach the G Flex. Today, finally, the LG G Flex Android 4.4 update has been released. While it doesn’t bring all of the features it was rumored to, it will definitely breathe a new life into the smartphone.
The roll out began on LG’s home turf, so it may take a while for this update to go live in other markets. G Flex owners can try manually pulling the update by searching for it through the settings application. The update will be released over-the-air, so it should automatically pop up on the G Flex once it becomes available in a particular market.
As expected, the LG Knock Code feature is included in the update. The feature was first introduced with the LG G Pro 2, it allows users to wake up the phone without having to enter the security code with a tap pattern, even if the display is turned off. It was rumored that the update will also bring the ability to record 4K video, but it doesn’t, so there’s really no point in keeping fingers crossed for that.
