HTC has already unveiled and released its 2014 flagship, the HTC One M8. It has beaten Samsung and its Galaxy S5 to the market, but HTC isn’t done yet. There have been rumors that the company is also working on a “mini” variant of its new flagship. Last year it did release such a variant of the original HTC One. Recently a Swedish carrier hinted at the device, and now a source inside a UK retailer has “confirmed” that the HTC One M8 mini release is going to take place in May.
The company itself hasn’t said anything about this smartphone as yet, so its best to take these claims with a grain of salt. While its not impossible to believe that a mini variant is on the cards, HTC has done this before, we can’t take rumored release time frames too seriously.
The source also claims that HTC One M8 mini will tout a premium unibody aluminium design just like the flagship, but its display size will be reduced to 4.5-inches. It is unclear right now if its going to be a 720p or 1080p resolution display. Moreover, the HTC One M8’s Duo Camera will reportedly be replaced with a single camera solution in the mini. This does make sense, since the idea behind this variant is to offer similar looks and build quality but at a relatively lower price.
