The Google Drive productivity suite has three core applications, Docs, Sheets and Slides. In December last year Google introduced a revamped version of Sheets. Not only did it bring offline editing support, it also brought a plethora of new features. Google gave users the choice to opt-in, the new version wasn’t enabled by default for all users. Starting today though Google is rolling out the updated Sheets version for all users.
This happens to be the biggest update ever for Google Sheets. One of the major features that it brings is offline editing. The feature only works if you use the Chrome browser, but if you do, you will be able to work on your spreadsheets even if there’s no internet connection. Once the computer is connected to the internet, any changes made offline will be automatically saved and synced. Other apps in the suite, Docs and Slides, already have offline support.
Several features such as support for Solver tool and autofill through Google Sets, which were included when the update was first introduced last year, have now been removed. Google now makes it easier to select multiple cells and add hyperlinks. Moreover, through new Filter views, users can easily share different views of their Sheets with other collaborators.
The company says that it is going to take a couple of weeks for the roll out to complete. Some of you might not immediately see the updated Sheets right away, just know that it requires a little patience.
