Last month the Samsung Galaxy S5 was finally made official. At Mobile World Congress 2014, Samsung took the wraps off of its new flagship smartphone. It will be released in more than 100 countries around the world come April 11th. The company has a penchant of launching several variants of its flagship devices. Its expected to stick with that this time around as well. Rumors about a Galaxy S5 Active have already started circulating, with the latest claiming that the variant will be headed to AT&T and Sprint, “among other carriers.”
The company did release a Galaxy S4 Active last year, it offered impressive protection against elements like water and dust. It was also carried by major networks like AT&T, so it won’t come as a surprise if AT&T picks up the Galaxy S5 Active as well. Its possible that the variant might also make its way to smaller, prepaid networks.
This latest rumor comes courtesy of Twitter’s leak kingpin @evleaks. Despite that the inimitable leaker has backed up the Galaxy S5 Active’s existence, there’s really not a lot of information available about its specifications. We’ll have to wait for official word on that, but its possible that we might hear rumors about them soon.
It is unclear when Samsung intends on launching the “Active” variant of its newest flagship. Its most likely going to hold off on that at least until after the Galaxy S5 has been released.
