The BlackBerry Z3 is a full touchscreen handsets designed for emerging markets, while the BlackBerry Q20 will be a QWERTY smartphone that has been designed for old school BlackBerry users in mind who might still prefer a physical keyboard over a virtual one.
However it looks like there will be more, according to BlackBerry’s CEO John Chen who spoke to Reuters and revealed that the company had at least three different handsets in the works, some of which would be of the high-end variety, and that these devices will be very keyboard-centric.
These news devices are expected to be shown off during the next 18 months, so hopefully we will be able to learn more about at least one of them later this year. Like we said earlier, we know of the BlackBerry Q20 which is the only phone with a QWERTY keyboard amongst the two handsets announced at MWC 2014.
At the same time there have been rumors about a certain BlackBerry Windermere handset which we’ve seen in leaked photos. The phone features a rather interesting design with a display sporting a 1:1 aspect ratio. Its keyboard is also interesting as it features gestured-based controls and not just physical ones.
However apart from that, not much else is known at the moment. In any case with BlackBerry’s recent fiscal results, they definitely need a winner on their hands at the moment so here’s hoping that the BlackBerry Q20 and future handsets will be able to do that for the company.
