BBC Three To Move Online In Cost Reducing Effort

It seems that BBC Three is all set to be dropped from regular TV programming, but it will still exist – albeit in the form of an online channel. The reason behind this particular move? It is part of the BBC’s cost-cutting measures. What does this move mean for viewers who are hooked to BBC Three and all that it offers? Well, it would translate to shows including Don’t Tell The Bride and Pramface to be made available via the iPlayer, instead of Freeview, satellite or cable.

The BBC is expected to step forward with an official announcement this coming Thursday, according to media correspondent David Sillito. What do you think of this particular decision? Celebrities have been said to be rallying behind the service, where Matt Lucas claimed that this particular move would be “really bad for new comedy”. Apparently, the BBC is finding it really difficult to juggle their finances, and in a speech by director general Tony Hall last week, he mentioned that the company needs to make some “tough choices” down the road in order to meet its savings target of an additional £100 million. You can also say that futures of both BBC Three and BBC Four have been talked about pretty much in recent times, especially when it comes to the implementation of the company’s savings plans.
