Aros Air Conditioner From GE Targets The Smart Home
GE did get the industry talking in 2013 when they invested $30 million into Quirky, which is a New York-based start up, and it seems as though that money has started to pay off through the form of the Aros air conditioner which was specially designed for the smart home. The Aros is not too different from the Nest Learning Thermostat, where it claims to synchronize with your smartphone while learning more about you and its surroundings through your schedule, budget, location, and usage so that it can work on maintaining an ideal temperature and maximizing energy savings automatically.
This would make Aros to be the first major appliance from Quirky, which is definitely a step in the right direction for the blooming partnership between Quirky and GE. Of course, this is not the first result from their collaboration, as the past has seen a smart surge protector, an app-enabled multi-sensor, and a connected egg tray for your refrigerator, but none of them are as major as his.
It does seem as though Aros will start from $300 upwards if you are interested in picking one up, and at that price point, it should be able to sell like hot cakes. Features on the Aros include touch-capacitive sensors and a blue LED temperature display.
