Apple Explains Why They Launched The 8GB iPhone 5c

Apple is a company that does things without really explaining the need for their actions, despite the numerous criticisms that they have received in the past. After all, by addressing these complaints it just opens the door to even more questions and let’s face, you just can’t please everyone.

Interestingly enough after unveiling the 8GB iPhone 5c earlier today, Apple has since released a statement explaining why they decided to unveil a lower capacity iPhone.

According to the statement which was released to the folks over at Re/Code, “The mid-tier iPhone segment is growing year over year and the 8GB model provides a more affordable option for markets where LTE is becoming more established.”

It was also revealed that the 8GB iPhone 5c will not be sold in the US at the moment since US carriers typically offer heavy subsidies on smartphones, meaning that they would be more affordable compared to other countries where carriers might not offer such heavy subsidies, if at all.

It is no secret that iPhone 5c isn’t doing very well at the moment, with Tim Cook himself admitting that the phone did not live up to their expectations. As it stands, it was reported that Apple is sitting around on 3 million units of unsold inventory which is definitely not a good sign for Apple.

Will the introduction of the lower-priced 8GB iPhone 5c be able to help generate more demand for the phone and possibly other Apple products in the process? We guess we’ll just have to wait and see, but in the meantime is an 8GB iPhone 5c something you would consider, especially given that you’d be unable to expand the phone’s memory?
