The New YotaPhone Has Been Announced

Some of you might recall that back in 2013, a certain Russian handset called the YotaPhone was released. In terms of being a smartphone, it was your standard fare in terms of its hardware and whatnot, but what made the YotaPhone stand out from the crowd was the fact that it came packing an e-ink display on the back of it, which we have to say made it a really unique device in terms of both looks and functionality. Last we heard, the company was set to debut the YotaPhone 2 at MWC 2014 and sure enough they have, although in terms of naming it seems that they have stuck to the YotaPhone moniker.

In terms of hardware it is obvious that there have been some upgrades, although more noticeably in its e-ink display which now features touchscreen capabilities, allowing for a bit more interaction. The e-ink display will be a 4.7-inch affair, larger than the 4.3-inch on the original, while its main display will feature a 5-inch Full HD OLED display with a pixel density of 442PPI. Under the hood, the new YotaPhone will be powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor and will be accompanied by an 8MP camera, a 2MP front-facing camera, and a slightly larger battery at 2,550mAh.

Interestingly enough the company has included a power saving mode which basically turns off the main display and instead use the back display where you can view your notifications so you can decide if they might be worth tending to. Unfortunately there’s no word on when the YotaPhone will begin to be made available on a wider scale, but given the specs and the features, it is definitely an interesting phone that is worth checking out.
