Google executive Susan Wojcicki has just been given a promotion, where she is now the new head of Google’s YouTube video business, at least according to Reuters, whose sources happen to be close to the matter. This particular promotion will see Wojcicki take over Salar Kamangar, where it represents the most recent change to Google’s top properties. Apparently, Google is looking to transform YouTube into a large money spinner, and according to Needham & Co. analyst Kerry Rice, “It’s one of the biggest traffic sources on the internet, so it makes sense to want to try to monetise the best they can.”
Google has not disclosed any of YouTube’s financial results, although analysts do have reason to believe that the website is capable of generating a few billion dollars each year in revenue from video ads and other promotions alone. This should not come as a surprise to industry insiders, as Wojcicki has been a member of Larry Page’s inner circle of top managers which is known as the “L” Team, and in her most recent position, she was the senior vice president of Ads and Commerce, sharing this particular post with Sridhar Ramaswamy who also happens to be another Google executive.
