Well according to a report from Famitsu, it seems that the PS4 did extremely well in Japan during its opening weekend and managed to sell over 300,000 units, 322,083 units to be exact.
Interestingly enough it seems that Sony’s PS4 numbers over the opening weekend are close to Nintendo’s own numbers for its Wii U console which managed 308,570 units sold in its opening weekend.
To put this into perspective, the PS4’s sales are higher than that of the PS3 which only managed less than 100,000 units during its opening weekend, but at the same time did not manage to beat the record set by the PS2 which sold 630,552 units during its first two days of availability.
In any case whether it breaks the record or not is not important because so far, the PS4 has managed to sell over 5.3 million units without the addition of Japan’s figures, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the total number of PS4 units sold is close to the 6 million mark by now.
