Based on the “XL” moniker we guess we don’t have to tell you guys that this will be a bigger phone than the other Nokia X devices, and sure enough it is with a 5-inch WVGA touchscreen display. The resolution does leave something to be desired but if anything, we guess it does help to keep costs down which in turned resulted in Nokia pricing it at an affordable €109 and will see a release in Q2.
In terms of specs, the Nokia XL will feature a 5-inch display, a Qualcomm dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, 768MB of RAM,up to 32GB of storage via microSD, a 5MP rear-facing camera and a 2MP front-facing camera. The Nokia XL is Nokia’s third Android device which is rather interesting given the fact that Microsoft will soon be acquiring the Finnish company.
Given that many years ago Nokia threw all their eggs into Microsoft’s Windows Phone basket, it is a little strange that Nokia is being so gung-ho about releasing Android devices when they are on the cusp of being acquired. We’re not sure if Microsoft will kill off Nokia’s future Android plans once they have been bought over, but for now those in emerging markets looking forward to low-end Android devices, it looks like Nokia will be an option to consider.
