In fact according to Motorola during their MWC press dinner, the company’s senior vice president, Rick Osterloh, was quoted as saying, “The Moto G has been the most successful, highest-selling smartphone in Motorola’s history.” He goes on to state that despite the low price point, Motorola is making a profit on every unit sold and they expect that to continue even after the sale to Lenovo is complete.
Unfortunately Osterloh did not provide any numbers which would have been useful, not to mention impressive, so we guess we’ll have to take him for his word. In any case it is not surprising to learn that the Moto G is such a success. In fact Nokia’s Lumia 520 is a prime example of where decent hardware, a good price point, and a good user experience can result in a device that is extremely popular, even if it isn’t necessarily the most powerful or most beautiful smartphone around.
Now the question is will Motorola be able to churn out a successor to the Moto G that will be just as, if not more successful? What do you guys think?
