Less Than 5% Of Developers Show Interest In The Wii U [Poll]
Nintendo’s Wii U platform is doing so hot at the moment and there are a variety of reasons why. It could be the hardware which is limiting developers from creating games on it. It could also be because there aren’t that many games on it that are causing developers to shun the platform as it could be a sign that there is no money to be made. It could also be due to a lack of gamers as gamers feel that there aren’t many games available, so why should they both? All of this is pretty much a vicious cycle that Nintendo needs to figure how to get out of, but in the meantime, a poll conducted for the GDC (Game Developers Conference) has revealed some rather disturbing numbers for Nintendo’s platforms.
According to the numbers, less than 5% (4.42% to be exact) of North American developers have expressed their interest in developing games for the Wii U. The numbers also show that less than 2% (1.9% to be exact) have shown interest in developing games for Nintendo’s 3DS platform. These numbers show a very disturbing trend and attitude towards Nintendo’s platform and definitely can’t be good for the confidence of gamers and current developers for Nintendo’s hardware. Perhaps as Wii U sales pick up with the release of Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros., developers might see a reason to return to the platform, but until then, we can’t say we like where this is going.
